What is a Pop-Up Gala?
Hi. My name is Merin. I plan Cultural Development Corporation’s events, namely, our annual gala. Sitting through an annual gala can be quite dull (not to mention planning it), and boring is not our MO. So this year, we are doing what we do best – getting creative.
We make space for art. Vague, right?
What exactly does that mean?
And what is this art space anyway?
All good questions. This year we are pairing artists, architects and developers, giving them some basic parameters and asking them to create a pop-up art space. The spaces will pop-up around town in April, and then converge on Long View Gallery for our Gala on May 1, 2010.
On a micro-level, this year’s gala will tell the story of how we do what we do every day – make space for art.
This site will track that process to the best of our time-strapped abilities. It won’t be fancy, with flash graphics and hyper-edited video (mostly because I can’t do those things), but it will lay bare how art spaces happen and what amazingly divergent creatures they can be.
